Just thought I’d drop you an email to let you know of a fantastic weeks worth of fishing enjoyed by my Father and I last week. He used to be a HH member before emigrating to Cyprus almost 10 years ago. Unfortunately, there is little fishing available there and I suggested we both go fishing in Sussex – his old stomping ground. I’m a HH member, living in Bolnore Village.
Last week, we both spent a few days on Valebridge, Ouse (East Mascalls pool) & Slaugham catching the following fish:
Barbel (13lb specimen, East Mascalls)
Bream (up to 4lb in East Mascalls and Valebridge)
Chubb (3lb 12oz, East Mascalls)
Common Carp (up to 9lb Valebridge – largest ‘off the top’)
Perch (up to 1lb Valebridge)
Roach (up to 1.5lb Valebridge)
Tench (up to 4.5lb Valebridge)
The hours spent at East Mascalls will stay with us both forever. The worst bit is some poor sod was just leaving the spot as we arrived and offered us some spare bait having only caught a few Bream. Whoever he is we need to thank him for baiting the swim!!! The Barbel & Chubb were PB’s for Dad, with the Barbel coming close to pulling him in – no more than he deserved in my opinion.
At Valebridge the setting was fantastic as usual and we both enjoyed good sport from Tench and the occasional Perch and Bream. I’ve never surface fished for large carp before but noted this was the required tactic from a previous visit, allowing me to catch the 9lb Common at Valebridge.
We had a quiet day at Slaugham, although the old man hooked a Pike (under 5lb) on worm, which bit through the line – next time perhaps!
We both had a cracking week and now hopefully I can get some practice in before he comes back for more. I hate to say it, but he made it look all too easy!!
I’ve attached some photo’s of the notable fish!
